Collective Action Funds

What is a Collective Action Fund?

A Collective Action Fund (CAF) is a purpose-driven fund at GroundUp Collective Foundation, built on the belief that there is power in numbers. Multiple individuals and organizations come together to raise resources and grant money to advance a shared cause.

Unlike a donor-advised fund, a CAF awards grants based on the recommendations of an independent advisory committee (IAC)—a group of experts deeply connected to communities working for social justice, supported by a dedicated GroundUp advisor.

Created by GroundUp, collective action funds combine the resources of many partners with the expertise of the IAC to shift power, strengthen social impact, and expand grantmaking opportunities. Through CAFs, our partners collaborate, explore innovative solutions, and drive change that addresses systemic inequities.
